A few Saturdays ago Lucas officially graduated from Princeton Theological Seminary! Instead of participating in the pomp and circumstance in Princeton, he was moving furniture into our house. We made the tough decision to head back to Missouri before the official graduation day so Lucas missed out on the big event. But moving into our wonderful house is a pretty big event as well.
We couldn’t let the day pass without a little celebration of our own so I put my sister to work making more yummy treats. This time they came in the form of cookies with the PTS logo and cupcakes filled with strawberry jam topped with wonderful icing and fondant emblems on top…

We decorated the kitchen with all kinds of fun things to add to the celebration…

Lucas received some presents for the occasion and I even snuck one past him when I presented him with a wad of cash to use to buy a desk for the study!
We were only slightly sad to miss the main event in Princeton especially after we found out that Lucas was awarded the Senior Fellowhip in Church History! There were several history awards handed out but he received top prize along with a $3,000 honorarium! So even though we weren’t there we had lots to celebrate.
Here’s to Lucas and a job well done on yet another degree. This fall he will begin what I hope will be his final degree. :)

Last Friday our friends Vivek & Jeanie hosted their annual Christmas party. They go all out for this event with lots of yummy food, games and even some caroling around the piano thanks to Vivek’s amazing piano skills. We went last year and loved it and this year didn’t disappoint. We enjoyed a wonderful evening with friends we knew and some friends who we meet there. Overall it was a great evening and I’m thinking maybe we can convince them to move the party to Missouri next year. :)

I’m just thinking back to last week when we celebrated Thanksgiving with our friends Vivek and Jeanie. They hosted the lovely meal but Lucas and I brought several items to add to the feast. It was a wonderful afternoon spent with them even though we all ate too much. :)
We brought along some green bean casserole…

Salad with artichoke hearts and parmesan cheese…

Deviled eggs…

And Lucas made a homemade apple pie…

Well now I’m thoroughly hungry and I wish I still had some of this yummy food to eat. :)

We are still loving the inside of our new place but something we also love is the outside…

We have a nice little patio to enjoy…

And we’ve tried to add some green to our patio…

Some more views…

We also use this outside space once a week for dinner with our building. Everyone brings stuff to grill and some sides to share with all who come…

It has been a great way to get to know some of neighbors even better…

Here is little Seefa…his family is from Egpyt and his dad is here working on his PhD…seriously the cutest kid ever…

Lucas with Anthony…

We also enjoyed the company of Anthony and his wife Ali last night when we had them over for fondue and Settlers…fun times!

When moving to a different place there are a million things that are new to you. For us we’ve been adjusting to lots of new things around here. One new thing is that Lucas is now officially a Princeton student. Last Thursday night we joined the rest of the incoming class for a formal dinner with the president and faculty of Princeton Theological Seminary (aka PTS). Here is the incoming class…

Can you spot Lucas?…Oh there he is!

We enjoyed our dinner with some of our neighbors. Our closest neighbor (as in right next door) is also named Shannon! So we pretty much talk about how we’re the coolest people ever and stuff like that. Just joking… We also met Anthony and Ali who are also neighbors of ours. So we enjoyed some great conversation and were even lucky to sit at a table without a prof. I say lucky although some probably wouldn’t see it that way. :)
Another new thing is that I have a job! It is a receptionist position at the Center of Theological Inquiry on the campus of PTS. CTI is a research institution for top notch scholars who come by invitation for a year. There is even a scholar at CTI who has taught at Regent…Oliver Crisp. It all happened quite fast seeing as last Friday I sent in my resume and within hours I went in for an interview. After waiting the week and finding out that they had several applicants I was offered the job this past Friday and start tomorrow. I will be one of only 4 staff people associated with CTI and will work everyday from 10-2:30. I am really glad it is essentially a part-time job because I have also applied and interviewed with a local church as their Praise Band Director. I’m fairly optimistic that that job will work out as well but time will tell.
The only other new thing in our lives is that we’ve finally started hanging pictures on the walls! So hopefully I’ll be able to take you on a tour by the end of this week. :)
