Owen has discovered some new friends. He sits and stares at them…talks with them…even plays with them. From left to right we have Ricky the Raccoon…Ollie the Owl…and Henry the Hedgehog

He loves his new friends and mommy loves that it keeps him entertained for a few moments. :)

Not only does Owen have Paca as a cat, he also has this little friend…

This has become one of Owen’s favorite toys. We use it to soothe/distract him during diaper/clothing changes. This little doggie has a jingle to him when you shake him around and Owen is becoming more aware of it. Early on I also made up a song that the doggie sings to Owen…
“Hey little buddy…I’m a little puppy…how ’bout you?…lets be friends!” (kiss)
They are sure to be friends for a long time.

I love presents. I love getting presents and I love giving presents. However, we are more than spoiled through our family and other gifts throughout the year. So this Christmas Lucas and I decided that instead of getting each other gifts we would take that money and give it away.
We decided to go through Heifer International for their work in bringing an end to world hunger through gifts of sustainability and self-reliance. After searching through the gift catalog we decided to give the gift of a sheep. We have also decided to name this sheep Wooly-Bully. Lucas thinks this sheep will be the biggest and baddest sheep there is so we named him accordingly. Here is how Heifer International says Wooly-Bully will help…
Entire communities depend on wool and meat from sheep. Struggling families use sheep’s wool to make clothes, or sell it for extra income. Sheep often give birth to twins or triplets and can graze even the hilliest, rockiest pastures unsuitable for other livestock.
Some Heifer families use managed grazing techniques or zero-grazing pens to protect the environment and collect manure for fertilizer, which improves soil and pasture land.
Warm in winter, cool in summer, waterproof and durable – wool is a valuable product that struggling families can use for clothing or sell for extra income.
All over the world, Heifer partners are raising sheep to advance the cause against hunger and poverty. And through the act of Pass on the Gift, they are also sharing training and animals with other families in need.
With all this said, we are in no way standing on a soap box telling you how things should be done. We still bought presents and will spend too much on things we don’t need. But we thought it this one area we would do something different. Here’s to Wooly-Bully and all the good things to come…

With spring quickly approaching we have been enjoying more and more sunlight. And I think that Paca enjoys it more than anyone…

I just wish she could get comfortable. :)

It all started on April Fools Day 15 years ago. My dad came home from work with a box. My sister and I could hear puppy sounds coming from inside the box. We really wanted a new puppy because our dog Oly was getting really old and would soon die. When I heard those puppy sounds I was so excited. Then when we opened the box we found a tape recorder playing the puppy sounds. I was furious. I couldn’t believe my dad would be so mean. He knew we wanted a puppy and it just wasn’t funny even if it was April Fools Day.
I stormed up to my room and wouldn’t come back down even when my sister told me there actually was a puppy! You see my dad had a second box with an actual puppy in it but I missed seeing that box. By the time I came back downstairs all I saw was a little fluff ball of white and somewhere inside all of that fur was a little puppy.
We named our little puppy April (in honor of the day). She was a lab/chow mix but really she was just a mut that my dad found for us. But she was a really cute mut. When we lived in the country she ran around chasing rabbits and was a complete country dog. When my parents moved to West Plains she entered her retirement years and was an indoor dog pampered by walks with my mom and hair cuts a few times each year.
She lived a good life and on February 14, 2009 she died. She was 15 years old. She had been going downhill for a while and in the end she stopped eating. My parents knew it was time so they took her to the vet and a few minutes later she was gone. My parents took her home and my dad buried her in the backyard next to Oreo, our cat who lived to be 17.

April with her summer do…

I think what finally did her in was this past New Year’s Eve… :)

She was a great dog and she will be missed.
